The Standard New York is located in one of the most intensely sought-after development sites in New York City, the trendy Meatpacking district. The Standard, designed by Todd Schliemann of the New York firm Polshek Partnership Architects, is a 20-story glass-slab building floating above the High Line. The High Line is an 80-year-old elevated freight railroad running down Manhattan’s West Side and through the site of The Standard. The High Line is an important landmark and therefore, the design of The Standard exists 30 feet above the track bed. From a distance, the building looks like an open book standing on end.
